A wonderfull book on who really won the 2nd WW. The Russians lost millions to the West's hundreds of thousands.A facinating insight into what went on and particularly well written and researched by Prof. Evan Mawdsley, whom I was priveleged to have been tutored by as an undergraduate at Glasgow.

A Very Good Book of the entire conflict
Thunder in the East by Evan Mawdsley is a very good book dealing with the most destructive conflict in history. It is well-written, fast-paced, opinionated and is not afraid to challenge accepted viewpoints and myths. It deals with the whole front and all the participants, and it does not simply follow the usual structure of Barbarossa, Leningrad, Moscow, Stalingrad, Kursk, Bagration and Berlin but instead deals for example with the war with Finland, the attempts to detroy Army Group Centre in 1942 and 1943 and the Soviet advance into the Balkans. However, at times it would appear to be slightly Russocentric. All in all though a very good book about the decisive theartre of the Second World War.

Excellent value & delivered as promised. Broadened my knowledge of the second world war. Amazing deceptions carried out by both Germans and Russians. Numbers of deaths on both sides staggering.

Currently reading this book, for studies at university level. So far it seems well written and useful if your interested in the Russian and German campaigns and it gives a comparison between the two countries.
