Great speargun.
Took this baby to Hawaii, and TSA didn't steal it. It takes quite a lot of force to pull back the rubber, but once locked into place, it stays that way until fired. DO NOT LEAVE GUN LOADED UNLESS YOU WILL FIRE IT WITHIN A MINUTE.I had loaded the speargun, and was swimming through shallow water, when I was "accidentally" pricked with a sea urchin. I took the speargun to shore, and let it sit in the sand for roughly 15 minutes. When I came back to retrieve the gun, one of the rubber slings had become undone, and the speargun looked like it had fired the spear 5m away.If the speargun isn't unloaded when brought out of the water, it will create a very dangerous situation for everyone. Please discharge the speargun in a safe location underwater before leaving it whatsoever as stated in the manual.Other than that, I haven't encountered any issues. Except the fact that my friend tried to load the spear, and nearly got his finger sliced off.

Good product, really terrible packaging
My 4 star rating is based on the gun itself, but because my experience with the packaging of this product doesn't seem to be unique, I think it's worth mentioning. The gun was shipped in a clear plastic bag inside of a long squished cardboard box. There was no padding - no bubble wrap, no air filled bags, no packing paper....just the gun in a bag bouncing around inside a box with a few pieces of tape on either end to hold it inside. It's not much of a surprise that the gun had scratches on it, or that the mini CD it came with was broken. Other than the scratch on the aluminum barrel the gun looked ok, but I was left feeling like maybe I should have just ordered a used gun instead.Onto the gun itself....I ordered the 100cm gun - it's a great looking speargun and while it's at the cheap end of the speargun price range, it doesn't look like a cheap scuba gun. The barrel is a nice matte black and the grip is comfortable. The band it comes with is REALLY tough to load the first time. You should always load the gun underwater though - doing it on land is very dangerous. If you're struggling with loading it, just do a search on speargun loading techniques and you'll find lots of videos that will show you how to do it without hurting yourself. You should never trust the safety on any speargun, because it only prevents you from pulling the trigger; if the gun gets knocked or randomly discharges, the spear is still going to shoot even with your safety on. That said, it would still be nice if the safety on this gun worked better than it does. Once you've taken the safety off, if you try to put it back on it's pretty tough to do and seems to get stuck halfway. Maybe it will loosen up with more use.Reloading the spear is easy and the line is simple to rig after each shot. If you miss and need to reload, you can do it really quickly once you get the hang of it. This gun has a massive amount of power for a single band gun - I've been hunting mostly with Hawaiian slings and a pole spear and the difference in the velocity the spear travels at is amazing. I've been using the gun on the first notch on the spear and can't see myself needing the extra power of the second notch unless I was going after much bigger fish than I usually see on the reef in South Florida. The gun is accurate and from about 10 feet the spear penetrates fish like they aren't even there. A snapper ended up halfway up the line today after the spear passed all the way through it and kept on going. After that shot though as I was reloading I noticed that the loop of line on the spear had come undone and the spear was ready to come off; the line had been pulled completely out of the crimper and I had to head back to shore to fix it. This shouldn't happen after less than a dozen shots with the gun - if I had shot something bigger like a mackerel or cobia, there's a good chance the spear shaft would be long gone along with the fish. Check the crimps on the line and if they don't look very tight, you might want to tighten them.I'm 6' tall and the 100cm gun is just about the perfect size for me and the sort of fish I'm going after. All in all it's a good gun at a great price. It's nicely balanced and neutral in the water when loaded.Edit: I've owned the gun for almost two months now. I set the band on the second notch last week and when I fired the line came out of the crimp attaching the line to the gun. Cressi definitely needs to work on crimping the line better -- both crimps should not fail so soon after getting a gun. Other than that I'm very happy with the gun; it's easy to load and shoots straight and the price can't be beat.

An excellent multipurpose spear gun
An excellent multipurpose spear gun. As is customary the out of the box bands are stiff but with the reduced barrel length it makes loading the gun manageable. I also have a 100cm version which was nearly impossible to load ( I am 5'10 180 lbs and in good shape) until the correct technique and some much stronger colleagues ( A former D1 football player and a college rugby star) were able to break in the bands. I did not have this problem with the 75cm version.I use this gun primarily during SCUBA artificial reef dives to collect all manner of things, it will easily help you gather all but the largest of common reef species. It is powerful and accurate.I would not suggest this gun for large game fish hunting (Cobia, Amberjack, Barracuda) unless you modified the spear shaft to one of a larger diameter.

did those that loved it actually used it
i am not sure how this item got so many positive reviews. did those that loved it actually used it? or did i get short changed with a crappy unit? The specs of this gun is great. the price, when i bought it, was very attractive at $126 (100cm. they have since increased the price to $180 something). and the gun is actually pretty accurate. Now the cons:1. the safety is total crap. I don't mind plastic trigger/safety assembly if it functions but this one is just horrible. The safety button was super sticky out of the box and no amount of switching it on and off will make it less sticky. It is so bad that it takes two hands to switch the button from one position to another. finally i just gave up and left it on "fire".2. The metal wishbone is pretty well made, but it is MUCH THICKER than the slot on the spear shaft. So much so that it would never fit in the notch on the spear shaft. it will catch on a little at first, but after less than 10 shots, the notch on the shaft got worn down and the wishbone will no longer catch.3. the spear shaft is cheap. cheap is different than thin (the spear shaft on this gun is very thin btw). but i just don't think it is made of the good quality stuff. after 2 shots the spear head is bent to one side. I corrected it, and then after few more shots, there is a visible fracture on the spear shaft where the hole for the barb was drilled.4. No shock cord. the gun is "all rigged ready to fire". but without the shock cord, it is nearly impossible to wrap the shooting line around the line release in water . i ended up just holding the shooting line lightly with 1 hand when I shoot.Five stars to amazon though. After their online chat rep heard my story they allowed me to return it without any questions. I got a Mako the 2nd day. Haven't tried it in water yet but at least out of box, EVERYTHING WORKS!
