2023 update. 3 winches, still great- Excellent purchase, loose electrical connections.
EDIT: I wrote this review in 2016 and it's the end of 2022. These winches (I have three of them) continue to perform flawlessly. As part of an offroad recovery group, this winch has seen a lot of use. I take care of it, using snatch blocks on heavy loads to take it easy on the winch. It's gone through numerous ropes (I've converted them all to synthetic). It sits outside under a neoprene cover on the front of the Jeep. My sole gripe is the remote connection which is easily broken. My fix is that I've retrofitted wireless remotes. I continue to recommend the product without reservation.(2016) I ordered and installed two on my vehicles this month. They appear to be of good quality and functioned right out of the box. My single complaint is that the electrical connections were not sufficiently torqued on the motor and solenoid on both units. Not so much that I could turn them by hand, but they needed a good "snugging" to make me feel confident in the connection. This could have been disastrous had I not checked them at install and they failed in the field. PLEASE, if you buy this item, bear in mind it is made in China and the quality control is lacking. Remove the solenoid cover and check torque on the solenoid and motor connections. Otherwise, I am very happy with the purchase. I will update with details after I use these some more.UPDATE 11/16: Converted both units to Amsteel Blue Synthetic, which is factory approved on the newer gray drum winches. Saves 20# and easier to handle. I spooled on 100' even though 85' is recommended. I'll use a snatch block if it loads up. Pulled three small stumps with wife's Jeep. Worked well.UPDATE 12/2017- Love these winches. Just pulled an SUV out of a 6' ditch with the reciever mounted TShark on the Dodge. Have used the wife's Jeep to un-stick the 8500# Dodge, pull up small trees, etc. The LP 8500 on my work rig got worked HARD this year unsticking forklifts, buried bobcats, and itself from a fast moving Naknek tide. These things are great. Still, do your due diligence and install the wiring correctly, substituting larger wires if necessary. Don't overheat the motor, and wind your cable or rope with great care. Check the connections and all fasteners to make sure everything is solid before expecting miracles. I even coat all the connections and shiny parts with silicone grease and it wears a cover.7/2020 I still have these winches mounted and operating. I do offroad rescue for fun and these winches are still going strong. Westin did not respond when I needed a new cover, and they greatly increased the price of this product I purchased for <$400, but the quality is good enough and I would buy one again.

Seems like a really nice winch for the money!
I bought this winch and installed it last weekend on my 2005 Jeep TJ. The package arrived in good condition. I was worried because previous reviews for winches stated the packaging came mangled. The install was very easy and straight-forward, accomplished in an afternoon. The nut for the ground wire was slightly loose from the factory, so I'd recommend checking all the connections before you use it.I haven't put it to any real use yet.. I've only played around, and re-spooled the cable as they recommend in the manual. The design and coating are very sturdy... I don't anticipate any problems with water damage to the solenoid as everything seems well sealed. The remote is nice and beefy and also weather-sealed. The operation is very good, and the line speed seems decent. The clutch lever is very easy to operate, and locks in place when it's in drive mode, so you don't have to worry about any tree branches knocking the winch into free-spool when out on the trails.I didn't rate it 5 stars because this sucker is HEAVY!!!! It weighs about 90lbs with the supplied roller fairlead. Also because after reading through the manual I discovered that they don't recommend installing synthetic line on this winch because the brake heats up too much under load and could de-stabilize and damage the synthetic rope. However, further research into the matter revealed that other companies (such as smittybuilt), which do install synthetic rope on their winches, use the same type of brake... So take note if you own one of those and keep an eye on the condition of your rope! I have no problem using the steel cable, but I had planned on eventually installing synthetic. I probably won't now.

Basic
This winch is the one ADD Bumpers recommended and it fits nicely. ADD did fail to mention that there is no way to access the winch once it is installed so having a remote cord or an extension so you could unplug/plug for operating is key. I would highly suggest putting the extension or remote connection on prior to installing inside the bumper🤦🏼♂️ I haven’t received an answer on some extensions that will work so I haven’t ordered mine yet. Sounds smooth when we ran it through during install. Haven’t had to apply out in the field yet🤞🏼

Works great on my Tacoma with ARB bumper
I installed this a few months ago and it has worked great. My truck had a 25+ year old Warn M8000 on it and I decided to buy this one rather than rebuild the Warn (I'll save that for a later project). I have not needed it for self-recovery (yet), but have used it extensively for pulling out trees and moving a large shed around. The motor pulls nice and feels solid. I opted for the synthetic line to save some weight and it has been much easier to work with than the steel cable, you just have to be aware of where it will run to make sure it won't rub on anything. I mounted the winch on an ARB bumper on my Gen 1 Tacoma. This required me to move the solenoid pack to a different spot, which took a little work and another $60 for all the 4ga cable and connectors, but I am really happy with the way it turned out. I also had to remove all the allen bolts (temporarily, of course) on the planetary gear assembly so I could rotate the free spool handle around to the access hole, which was really easy and not a big deal at all. I really like the self-contained solenoid pack compared to what Warn has and will probably use one when I get around to rebuilding the old M8000.

So far so good!
Quick and easy install onto my Jeep. Wiring was long enough to be connected directly to the battery on my 2 door JK. Setup was a breeze.Long-term/usage TBD - I haven't needed to use it yet.

Top quality winch for a fraction of the cost compared to another named brand winch.
Why pay more for another product just because of the name. This company has been making winches for a very long time for the Military, industry and for the recreational ATV off road enthusiast. East to install. Big bonus for the great price was getting the synthetic line. Highly recommend.
