Great coffee roaster for new and seasoned roasters!
The media could not be loaded. A great coffee roaster! I got the product 2 weeks earlier than expected which was great! It arrived maybe 5-7 days after I ordered which is quick considering I live in the US. I highly recommend this to others who want to roast their own batch. I chose the 250g size because I did not need the 500g size and the 250g was just the right size to fit in my kitchen. It roasts the beans very evenly and there really is not that much smoke/smell when roasting with this. The chaff is very controlled and most of it is captured underneath if you get the cooler with it. Cooler works great. I like to shake the handle of the cooler back and forth a little at least in the beginning to cool the beans a bit quicker. You can control the temperature to your liking while roasting which is great, whether you want to lower the heat after the first crack or completely shut it off and just let the beans keep roasting for a little longer. Also, if you live in the US, they will message you confirming that you want the 110V option, which is the one you want. If you are outside of the US, then you can get the 220V.As for safety, as long as you are smart and do NOT touch the top metal portions while roasting and/or the barrel with the beans inside after dumping out the beans, then you should be fine. All that is obvious hopefully.Overall, it is a great roaster and a great bang for my buck. I definitely think this is significantly better than the cheaper SR500 or SR700. And for the same price, I like this design and functionality than the Gene Cafe. The Gene creates a bit more smoke and the smell gets around everywhere which is not the greatest for smaller apartments/homes.

Arrived damaged, but was able to successfully repair and use it myself
I bought the product here listed as "Condition: Used - Very Good - The box has been opened before, but the product is new." It was discounted by $50.It was well packaged and everything seemed intact. However, when I turned it on, the barrel did not turn, even though I could hear the motor running. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that there were five little bolts in a plastic bag. They had been removed from the inner metal plate where the motor should have been mounted. I could see it through the hole, just hanging there by its wires.I considered returning the unit, but I'm a DIY kind of guy and thought, "Heck, this doesn't look too hard to fix."Well, after spending the better part of a Saturday afternoon disassembling the unit, making a hardware store run to find a single missing nut, getting my daughter to help hold pliers in an awkward angle, cursing a lot, I'm happy to report the operation was a success! My first roast was pretty straightforward, especially compared to the finicky control panel on my old Behmor 1600 Plus.Roasting took 10 minutes with 3-4 minutesThings I like about the Boca:+ Simplicity of manual operation.+ hip style; love the wood casing with dovetailed joins and professional looking solid stainless steel.+ Very well constructed, by hand apperently.+ Very little smoke. I could roast indoors with only a bit of that grassy smell.+ Good price.+ Adequate capacity (I have the 200mg (1/2 lb) version).+ Very quiet (though the first crack was a bit hard to hear over the sound of tumbling beans).+ Highly visible beans during roast (though the chaff makes it hard to see actual color).+ Very even roast.Room for improvement:- Ideally the unit would have arrived fully functional. Taking it apart to reach the motor was a PITA. The Behmor is much easier to service.- The opening to the barrel is a bit small and oddly shaped, making it tricky to funnel beans into---especially since the thing has to be preheated. The supplied heat-resistant gloves are a must!- The door to the glass barrel is very tricky to get back on after filling the barrel. A hinge would be better.- The cooler is effective at cooling, but there was still a lot of chaff on the beans, even though I was constantly agitating them. Not a big deal; I just went outside and shook them around in my old Behmore drum.- The cooling tray sticks out the back, but the temp and timer knobs are in the front. I really didn't want to move this thing while it's moving and very hot, so I had to operate it sideways on my working surface (see pics). Also, I had to lean down close to read the numbers on the dials. They should have been etched, not just stenciled (for readability). And the temp knob could have been stepped so you can feel each setting point. But overall, I'm happy with the purchase and look forward to many years of service.

Poor customer service
This is an update to my review. The seller did connect with me and after a few messages they took care of my broken door. I had to buy a new glass tumbler but they sent the entire cylinder assembly. It’s now been two years and I still love this unit.—First, this is quite possible the best beginner roaster to get. I give the roaster 4 stars. I’ve had it 18 months and roast every other week.My biggest concern had just been realized. What do I do if something breaks. The door to the enclosure was something I never really like and now the flimsy tab that holds it closed broke. I contacted the seller asking how do I get replacement parts and they responded that I didn’t buy it from them. I sent the another message assuring them I had. No response.

Great while it lasted
I really enjoyed using this but it broke after 7 months. I contacted the company but the warranty expired. I’m very disappointed that something this expensive is basically useless after 7months.

Thermometer failed in 3 months. Seller unresponsive.
Warranty is effectively 30 days (Amazon's). Seller unresponsive. Thermometer failed. No way to replace part. Customer left to just guess/buy parts in hopes of fixing this $500+ machine.

Wonderful Home Roaster
I truly enjoy this coffee bean roaster. It’s well made. (Made in South Korea NOT China.) Its easy to use. It’s able to do back to back repetitive roasts. It will roast up to 8 oz. at a time. (The 500 version is double the capacity and price.) It is NOT an automatic or programable roaster (which I prefer). So much more to say . . .

Wonderful even and controllable roasts!
Pros: Quiet, repeatable results, flexible manual control, easy to use.Cons: As with most roasters, needs good ventilation to use indoors.Glass canister will need cleaning every 6-10 roasts if you go full city or more regularly. Easy to clean.

Roasting with surprisingly little smoke
Compared to the air popper I was using, this puts out surprisingly little smoke. Some chaff falls down into the chamber, the clean design makes it easy to reach with a small vacuum though, so no problem. Try roasting at home.
