Norwegian vocabulary for English speakers - 9000 words (American English Collection) Paperback – October 1, 2014

It arrived quite fast considering how far I ordered it from. I've been trying to improve my knowledge of norsk vocabulary and this would help tons! Thanks!

I was hesitating whether to buy this item at all, to buy it as an ebook or as a hardcopy. I ended up buying it in the digital version and I am glad that I did. Earlier I had downloaded the sample and I did not notice any problems with the formatting on a Kindle. However, I am using it with my desktop Kindle app.Now as to the vocabulary itself. I am not Norwegian, I am a student and certainly am not fluent in the language, so I cannot judge the selection of words or the correctness of all the grammar. However, I have used thematic vocabulary lists for other languages in the past and I am familiar with their advantages and disadvantages. First of all, endless, unorganized lists of words are useless. The idea is to establish a structure so that you can learn the most common words relating to a subject of interest, be it weather or science or transportation. The more sub-headings in the structure, the better. Also the greater the number of words included, the better. I think 9,000 words is a minimum. Grammatical notation and pronunciation help is big plus. The Germans (for example Klett) are very good at this sort of thing and have established a kind of standard in thematic vocabularies. For the English-Norwegian combination we do not as yet have much choice, but I feel Taranov's contribution is a good start.

It wasn’t what I needed since I wasn’t traveling but definitely recommend to anyone that will be. Lots and lots of great categories in the book.

Very difficult to use the way it's organized.

This product is not correctly formatted for Kindle, is full of typos, and the author has a very limited understanding of Norwegian vocabulary and grammar. It is an entirely useless product. It wouldn't be worth the money if it were Free. Beware, there are several editions of this work, each with a different number of words.
